Josephson offers tips on “manscaping,” which the urban dictionary defines as “shaving, waxing and cleaning up the superfluous fur.” It isn’t just what a guy does below the belt that matters.

“A pair of tweezers are man’s second best friend because if you have hairs dangling from your nose or your ears, that is SO not sexy,” Josephson says. “Also, if your shirt is not touching your back because there’s too much hair, you need to trim it.”

Josephson cuts the hair of Hollywood superstars like Anthony Hopkins and is known for his ability to repair damaged hair. He appeared on Bravo’s “Blow Out” and “The Real Housewives,” “The Girls Next Door” on E! and Oxygen Network’s “The Janice Dickenson Modeling Agency.”

To get rid of body hair, he recommends laser hair removal or using clippers with a guard attached so no sensitive body parts are snagged. Ouch! He advises men not to be afraid of hair products that actually work. Manscaping is about showing women you care about details, but it doesn’t necessarily mean spending as much time in front of a mirror as your girl does.

“I save marriages with this advice (on shaving testicles) because women ask me to talk to their husbands when I’m cutting both of their hair,” he said.

He gives co-host Chris Leary a stylish new haircut. Phillips’ personal assistant Marc Revivo gets his look critiqued while board operator Jorge Corona gets his “Chewbacca back hair” shaved while his hands are up against the studio wall.

Hairstylists Lexie, Cara and Melanie also offer helpful tips for guys from their perspective as young, hot women on the dating scene. A man can have a chest as bare as Michael Phelps, but if his breath stinks, all bets are off.

They are joined in Sam’s Single Life Shout Out by comedian Robert Schimmel, a Bronx-born stand-up comedian known for his edgy albums, appearances on HBO and “The Howard Stern Show.” Phillips, a former high-fashion model, appeared as the seductive L.A. babe on the cover of “If You Buy this CD, I Can Get this Car,” a 1998 Schimmel comedy album.

That’s the question host Sam Phillips poses to her old high school pal, actor Esai Morales, on the next episode of “The Single Life with Sam Phillips” on MavTV, airing June 5th at 11:30 p.m. EST. Morales has starred in films like “La Bamba” and “Fast Food Nation” as well as TV series like Showtime’s “Resurrection Blvd,” CBS’s “Jericho” and ABC’s “NYPD Blue.”

Morales, a ladykiller in the looks department, compares dating to wrestling and surfing. He thinks the person dominating the relationship is whichever one is least emotionally invested in keeping it going.

Morales plays a lawyer whose life is shaken up after the death of his wife and daughter. His character is the father of Bill Adama, grandfather of Lee “Apollo” Adama. The pilot was released on DVD in April and the show is set to premiere on Sci-Fi Network in 2010.

‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper talks dating on ‘The Single Life’

Dating advice dads share with kids is the topic this week on “The Single Life with Sam Phillips“ on MavTV. It’s a male-oriented talk show where celebrities discuss sex, dating and relationships.

The actress reminises about how her dad put terror into the hearts of any boys who visited their home to take her out on dates.

Christopher “Kid” Reid from hip-hop and comedy duo Kid ‘n’ Play also gives his thoughts on the same topic during “Sam’s Single Life Shout Out” segment. Reid, known for the trademark high-top fade haircut, recorded three albums with Christopher “Play” Martin and they starred together in four motion pictures, including the “House Party” films. They even had their own NBC Saturday morning cartoon in the early 1990s. His music was included in a State Farm commercial this year featuring LeBron James dancing.

Justine Bateman comes to ‘The Single Life with Sam Phillips

Last week was the debut of “The Single Life with Sam Phillips” on MavTV. It’s a great show where celebrities talk candidly about sex, dating and relationships in a way that’s oriented to MavTV’s male audience.

On this week’s episode, Phillips talks to her friend Justine Bateman, who played Mallory Keaton on “Family Ties” and more recently has appeared on “Desperate Housewives” and “Arrested Development.” Bateman’s online production company, FM78.tv, produces “The Molls Show,” written and directed by video blogger Molly McAleer. Bateman and McAleer join in the discussion about Internet dating.

Comedian John Heffron, winner of season two of “Last Coming Standing,” gives his input during “Sam’s Single Life Shout Out” segment and another one of Phillips’ friends, actor Judd Nelson, calls in to tell his stories, while Phillips’ intern, Jaime Lee Wilson, aka “Alexus Winston,” is pulled into the discussion because her mother met a man on Yahoo’s dating service and they’ve been together for a decade.

“Jaime was the Penthouse Pet of the Year runner-up in 2000, so she’s a very famous centerfold who does not need money and drips in diamonds, so it’s very funny that she’s my hot intern. She drives up to the studio in an Aston-Martin and pulls cheese platters out of her trunk,” Phillips said.

In fact, Phillips (herself a June 1993 Penthouse Pet) said the show is terrific for high-definition television aimed at guys because her studio is “full of smart, great-looking people… I have an amazing crew who work for me. I have gorgeous phone screener, Yanira Johnson, and a gorgeous producer named Gina Grad.”

  

The women of The Single Life

The show isn’t just eye candy, though. Co-host Chris Leary is key to the show’s guy-centric formula. Leary, known on the radio as “The Learjet,”  is a media personality who hosts a music charts countdown program among other things.

“I like the dynamic,” Phillips said. “I could host the show by myself, but as the former host of a show called ‘Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus,’ I have very much ingrained in my training a male and female perspective on issues. I like having a guy sitting there with me in case I get girly or chickish. It’s nice to have a dude to bounce off of.

“Plus, Chris is really funny, and we’ve worked together for three years so he knows me very well. He knows when I’m going to stop talking and he can add something. When I first started in radio 10 years ago, I was someone else’s co-host so I learned the art of interjecting something at the right point into the conversation.”

Phillips’ co-executive producer Eric Mittleman puts his touch on every episode as well behind-the-scenes. He’s was the first show runner and co-creator of Playboy TV’s groundbreaking talk show “Night Calls.”

Also in the studio is board operator Jorge Corona. Then there is “monkey,”  who is actually Phillips’ best friend, Marc Revivo.

“I starred in a series called ‘Hot Springs Hotel’ and Marc played Theo the bellhop,” she said. “He would do all of these prank falls, stealing scenes even without any dialogue. For years on my radio show, Marc was a regular caller. I started calling him ‘the monkey’ because whenever we went on hikes, he would jump off boulders like a spider monkey. We used to play monkey noises when he called in to the radio show. Now he’s my personal assistant and I boss him around.”

Sam Phillips hosts “The Single Life with Sam Phillips” on MavTV!

MavTV welcomes a new personality to the network who is sure to become one of your favorites if she isn’t already.

Sam Phillips is the host of “The Single Life with Sam Phillips”, which premieres tonight at 11:30 p.m. EST and replays Saturday morning at 5:30 a.m. EST. The comedy talk show will regularly air during these times.

Sam brings her celebrity friends into the studio to talk about sex, dating and relationships in a way that’s oriented to MavTV’s male audience. The results are hilarious. Sam knows half of Hollywood on a first-name basis and her friends are more candid with her than they are with almost anyone else on TV. Phillips has been a talk-show host, producer, actress, reality TV host, radio DJ, high-fashion model, a Penthouse Pet, and a spokesmodel. So she also brings fantastic stories from her own wild life to the program.

“Every guest who comes on is there because of personal relationships I have with them,” Phillips said. “I’ve collected friends from various stages of my life, from the modeling days on to the present. They’ve even come on my show in the past and co-hosted. People like Judd Nelson, Pauly Shore, Esai Morales… There’s a whole group of people I’ve called on when my co-host Chris Leary is off doing television.”

In the show’s premiere episode, Lorenzo Lamas stops by to talk about how he maintains relationships with all of his ex-wives… several of whom even call-in to the show while Lorenzo is in the hot seat.

“Most people can’t stay friends with their exes. I wanted to know what his secret was. One of his ex-wives, Shauna Sand, calls in to talk about it, and she is in the studio herself on a future episode,” Phillips said.

“I also do a thing called ‘Sam’s Single Life Shoutout’ because I have a lot more celebrity friends than I could fit in the studio. Every episode we leave the studio and film a second celebrity giving their view on the same topic.”

She said the premiere episode is a good indicator of the level of humor and celebrity viewers can expect during the run of the series.

“We do NOT take ourselves seriously,” she said. “We’re there to have a good time and entertain — and hopefully teach guys something new,” she said.

Fun aside, Phillips said the she’s extremely proud of the new show.

“I am a perfectionist and take great pride in my name being on something. I feel so incredibly fortunate to have gotten this opportunity to do my show with MavTV. I held off a really long time and turned other situations down waiting for the right venue, the right vehicle, to do the right type of show. I feel blessed to have met the guys at MavTV. They were so down with the concept of a powerful, strong, sexy chick who talks like a guy to guys. They dug my brand of entertainment.”

To make a radio show go smoothly, there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes. MavTV primarily wanted a sexy talk show, but we’re excited to be giving them much more than that.”

Phillips is excited to bring her show to television during an exciting time for the network.

“It’s great because Mav is an established network and they are in a growth phase to where they are, in my opinion, about to burst to a whole new level this summer.”
